| Alcona Canoe owner, Kevin Ornatowski, has been competing in the AuSable River Canoe Marathon for five years and has finished in four of those years. This grueling marathon has been a mainstay on the AuSable River for 66 years. Kevin has placed 28th for his best finish and 46th overall in the event. |
| Training for the AuSable River Canoe Marathon is a year round effort for those who participate. A wide variety of races take place leading up to the marathon. You can find a list of all the events by visiting the Michigan Canoe Racing Association’s web site for a complete schedule of races planned in 2015. |
| Again this year the Alcona Pond will be the site of a two-day racing event. The Alcona Dam Challenge will take place on Saturday and Sunday, May 30-31. The event is being sponsored in part by Alcona Canoe Rental and Campground. Click on this link for more information about the race. |

| Another exciting accomplishment for Kevin and his family is the continued enthusiasm his daughter, Mallory, is showing for the sport. Mallory has been canoe racing since she was seven years old. Now 12, she continues to train for a number of sprint races across the state of Michigan. When she turns 15 she and dad, Kevin, will become a father-daughter team in the AuSable River Canoe Marathon. |
